HWM Contracting were assigned the technical demolition of the Berth 201 Shed within Southampton Docks.
This building was the last bonded warehouse within Southampton docks that had been used for the storage of animal feeds by one of ABP (Associated British Ports) clients.
Located within Western Docks close to the King George V Dry Dock and at the edge of Berth 201 where previous extension works had been conducted to the quayside.
The building was required to be demolished as the container terminal (DP World) that currently operate on the quayside at Berth 201, require more container storage space in an ever continuation & escalation of UK Imports & Exports.
The warehouse was a heavy duty cladded steel frame structure that required a careful and considered demolition plan, due to the dimensions of the building and the proximity to the western docks main access road, residential properties, the docks (Sea) and live HV electrical services.
The time scales for completion and clearance of the waste was 6 weeks, but due to HWM Contracting specialised plant and equipment and our skilled technical workforce, the demolition was completed in 4 weeks. The waste materials, where possible were sent to various licensed recycling facilities for disposal. HWM Contracting can conclude that the project was completed well within the timescales with zero accidents and having an exceptional recycling rate of 92.36 %.
